NBA Draft Lottery Format
Set for Sunday, April 28, in Chicago
On Sunday, May 12, in Chicago, the 2024 NBA Draft Lottery will take place. It will be shown live on ABC at 11:00 ET. The 14 teams vying for the top places in the 2019 NBA Draft will determine their fate in this major NBA event. These clubs did not make it to the playoffs.
The first 14 NBA Draft selections are determined by the lottery. The next 10 teams are arranged according to their regular-season record, going from least to most victories. The first four picks will be assigned by a draw.
The process for operating the NBA Draft Lottery
The NBA claims that important processes take place behind closed doors in front of an exclusive group of reporters, NBA officials, franchise representatives, and Ernst & Young auditors.
In order to participate in the draw, players must have 14 numbered ping-pong balls and a lottery machine from Smart Play Company, one of the top lottery machine suppliers in the United States. Furthermore guaranteeing the accuracy of the balls used in the draw is Smart Play.
The first ball is picked after all 14 balls are loaded into the machine and mixed for 20 seconds during the NBA Draft lottery. Until four balls are drawn, this process is repeated with shorter intervals between mixes.
The fourth-ball combination that corresponds to the winning team receives the first draft pick. For the following three selections, same procedure is repeated. The combination is rejected and a new one is drawn if it is drawn in duplicate or without an assignment.
Who is going to present the findings for NBA Draft Lottery?
Agents from Ernst & Young carefully supervise the whole procedure. They also prepare and seal the envelopes with the results, which are then brought to the broadcast studio.
The outcomes will be revealed in real time by NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum. Representatives from each lottery team will be on stage, but they won’t find out the outcomes until the envelopes are opened, just like the domestic viewers.
The draft lottery this year looks to be an exciting prelude to the NBA Draft, which takes place on June 26–27, 2024. It will determine the future paths taken by the participating teams and their young players.
