Tee Higgins Refuse To Sign Franchise Tag, Preseason Concern For Bengals
In order to pursue a contract extension, for which there is currently no agreement, the wide receiver has decided to not show up to OTAs.
The Cincinnati Bengals are experiencing tension as wide receiver Tee Higgins, who has been tagged by the team for the upcoming season, is unwilling to accept his contract tender.
While many clubs and players on the verge of minicamp have begun organized team activities, just a few stars have not been attending their individual OTAs; others have been absent due to contractual obligations.
Since these are optional, their absence is essentially not a problem—unless, of course, there’s a good reason to think they’ll be a part of the regular preseason training cycle.
It is likely that Tee Higgins will not sign his franchise tag deal by next week, which would prevent him from taking part in the Bengals’ organized team activities. This information comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. In order to enter and receive training, he must sign.
Why Tee Higgins not signed franchise tag?
Tee Higgins, according to a number of sources, is not signing his franchise tag contract tender because he was disappointed not to receive an offer for a long contract extension.
At the start of the offseason, after being franchise tagged, he asked to be traded, but the Bengals’ ownership stated they had no plans to make him go.
The talented wide receiver will get $21.816 million this coming season if he contracts and plays, but he would have been a free agency had he not been franchise tagged.
Though it’s unclear under what conditions or whether there would be conflict, it’s interesting that he did state in April that he plans to play in Cincinnati in 2024.
