Caitlin Clark Became First Player to Triple-Double in NCAA Tournament
Caitlin Clark of Iowa established NCAA Tournament history by being the first player—among men and women—to score 30 or more points to get a triple-double.
Clark was outstanding from beginning to end in Iowa’s 97-83 victory over No. 5 Louisville in the women’s Final Eight on Sunday night.
The outstanding junior scored 41 points while shooting 58% from the field (11 of 19) and 57% from the 3-point range (8 of 14). In the fourth quarter, she had 1:03 remaining. Clark added ten rebounds and 12 assists. She was given credit for her final rebound.
The only player to record a triple-double of 30, 40, and more points in an NCAA Tournament game is currently Clark.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, she also made history by becoming the first player in Division I history to score 900 points and hand out 300 assists in a single season.
Clark has played in four NCAA Tournament games and has a triple-double of 30 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds per game.
For the first time since 1993, the Hawkeyes make it to the Final Four with Clark as their captain. On their way to the Final Four, Iowa defeated No. 15 South Eastern Louisiana, No. 10 Georgia, No. 6 Colorado, and No. 7 Louisville.
The winner of Monday’s Final 8 battle between No. 1 South Carolina and No. 2 Maryland, the defending national champions, and the Hawkeyes will take on that team.
